Dutch Government Wants To Force Track Access Fees – Based On An Overpriced Bid By Dutch Railways – Onto All Other Operators
Railway operators must pay a total of approximately €170 million annually for the use of the Amsterdam-Belgium/Breda high-speed line. This amount was agreed between the Dutch government and Dutch Railways (‘NS’), and it stems directly from the Fyra concession fee offered by NS in overpriced bidding back in 2001.

As the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) celebrated its 20th anniversary, ALLRAIL’s team travelled to its home city of Valenciennes to reflect on the Agency’s achievements so far. The ERA plays a central role in harmonising a fragmented EU rail market, and now it should be given more responsibility and funding.
Spin Alert in Poland: State Incumbent PKP Intercity Boasts About ‘Profits’ – but These Are Due to a Gigantic Increase in Directly Awarded Taxpayer Subsidy
State-owned rail incumbents continue to present themselves as financial success stories - which is deliberately misleading. This narrative fails to mention the astronomical growth in directly awarded taxpayer subsidy, without which there would be no ‘profit’.

After over 400 meetings and visiting 65 cities, the President of the Jacques Delors Institute and former Italian prime minister Enrico Letta has issued a report on the future of the EU Single Market and presented it to EU leaders.
It clearly highlights the obstacles that still prevent the Single European Railway Area from leading the way towards sustainable, affordable free movement of people across the Union.
To Compete With The Car, Multimodal Door-To-Door Bookings Using Ground-Based Public Transport Must Be Possible
This month, at a meeting in Brussels, European Transport Ministers called on the EU to make rail the backbone of European mobility and that “passengers can easily compare, book and pay for their door-to-door train journey in a trans-European perspective".
It must be possible for travellers to book door-to-door journeys across the EU using ground-based public transport at the same App or website – in one single transaction - with rail as the backbone of the trip.
For Multi-Modal, Door-To-Door Bookings In Ground Public Transport, Transmodel NeTEx Is The Best Technical Standard
To counter the dominance of the private motor car and reduce carbon emissions, it is crucial to enable door-to-door bookings on ground-based public transport, with rail as the backbone of the journey.
Therefore a common technical standard across all ground transportation modes must be introduced. The tried and tested Transmodel NeTEx is proven to be technically superior and flexible, and offers full transparency for travellers.
German Railways (DB) Portrays Itself As “One Team. For The Environment.” But It Refuses To Sell The Tickets Of A New Night Train Operator in Germany
This year, to coincide with the UEFA EURO 2024™ (European Football Championship), German Railways ('DB') is making the pompous claim that it is “One Team. For The Environment."

Poland: Biased Rail Regulator Approves Application for PKP Intercity but Refuses Identical Application for Newcomer
On 3 March 2024, after 531 (!) days of proceedings, the Polish rail regulator UTK only approved a minor portion of independent operator RegioJet’s application to operate commercial passenger services on the Kraków–Gdynia route, and confined mostly to off-peak hours.
UTK's decision to approve state incumbent's application while imposing severe limitations on that of the independent operator showcases a troubling instance of double standards and protectionism.

Denmark: State-owned incumbent DSB celebrates its fake ‘profit’ – in a closed market
DSB’s reported “profits” are in fact a fake profit margin that is 'earned' from a countrywide Public Service Obligation ('PSO') contract that was directly awarded by the Danish government without the benefits of a competitive tender (which would have achieved a lower cost for taxpayers and higher quality for passengers).
