ALLRAIL Fact Sheet: 9 Myths About the New EU Passenger Package: Why the Status Quo Is No Longer an Option
Statement
ALLRAIL statement on 9 myths about rail ticketing and passenger rights

As previously highlighted by our Secretary General, Nick Brooks, ALLRAIL, the Alliance of Passenger Rail New Entrants, welcomes the publication of the new EU Passenger Package by the European Commission.

In response to the criticism already emerging, ALLRAIL is today setting out 9 myths shaping the current debate on rail ticketing and passenger rights — and adding the facts and experiences from rail new entrants that are too often missing from the discussion.

The current rail ticket distribution market does not properly serve passengers or new entrant rail operators. It limits visibility, reduces choice and weakens rail’s competitiveness compared with other transport modes.

A technical standard alone will not solve the problem. Across Europe, there are already numerous disputes and competition concerns regarding fair access to rail ticketing data and distribution. Commercial freedom cannot be used as a justification for abusive behaviour by dominant market players.

Passengers must be able to find, compare and book all relevant rail services, as part of a #FairRailTicketing market.
