With the Climate and Cost of Living Crisis, the EU’s Multimodal Digital Mobility Services (MDMS) Proposal Must Convert Car Drivers to Rail
The recent heatwaves and floods across Europe reminded us of the current climate crisis, to which the EU's transport sector - especially the private individual motor car - contributes significantly. The EU Commission must make sure to focus MDMS efforts on the vast majority (80%) of EU citizens that use the private individual motor car by ensuring that All Tickets are Sold at All Ticket Vendors – and with this 100% Transparency For EU Citizens: Nobody Should Restrict What They Can See, Based Purely Upon Where They Go To Book.
Train Over Plane: A new campaign to replace short haul flights
ALLRAIL and one of our members – the online travel comparison and booking portal Omio – are both partners in a new campaign to replace short haul flights with rail, in order to decarbonise the transport sector. The campaign is spearheaded by SilverRail Technologies and there are ten other organisations that are partnering with it as well.
European Rail Manifesto: Reaching EU Climate goals by making rail the first choice for European travel in 2030
In the framework of the #ConnectingEurope Days in Lyon (June 2022), ALLRAIL along with other European actors of the rail sector, industry, civil society, passengers and workers associations came up together with the European Rail Manifesto.
In this manifesto, we commit to working towards a collaborative rail ecosystem that provides affordable, inclusive, secure and green mobility for all European Citizens by 2030, in order to progress with a modal shift in which medium and long-distance passenger transport is the backbone.
Our 2030 European Rail Vision is based on six objectives to be reached by 2030:
- Make rail the backbone of sustainable mobility;
- Ensure inclusiveness, competitiveness and affordability;
- Guarantee connectedness, service levels and infrastructure quality;
- Promote a green, inclusive, attractive, gender-balanced and qualified industry and jobs;
- Ensure good governance, high quality, reliability and security;
- Finance and invest in the future of rail.
In addition, we call upon European institutions and Member states to support our commitment.
