EU Digital Markets Act Principles Must Apply to EU Rail Ticket Distribution

ALLRAIL is pleased to share its new Position Paper, EU Digital Markets Act Principles Must Apply to EU Rail Ticket Distribution, on how EU Digital Markets Act principles provide a clear precedent for the proposed Rail Ticketing Regulation.

The paper argues that:

  • Dominant, vertically integrated rail ticketing platforms increasingly act as digital gateways between passengers and rail operators.
  • When independent operators are not fairly displayed or sold, passengers lose choice.
  • The Single European Rail Area remains incomplete if passengers cannot see or buy the full range of rail offers.

ALLRAIL calls for:

  • Neutral display and no self-preferencing by dominant rail ticketing platforms.
  • All willing operators to be visible, comparable and bookable on market-dominant rail ticketing platforms.
  • Fair and non-discriminatory access terms in the new EU rail ticketing framework.
